Terminology

Line of Dance (LOD)
Counterclockwise around the dance area (normally circular)

Reverse Line of Dance (RLOD)
Clockwise around the dance area (normally circular)

Center of Hall/Center (COH)
Center of circle or to the left as one faces Line of Dance

Wall
Opposite of Center or to the right as one faces Line of Dance

Lead foot
Leader’s left foot; follower’s right foot

Lead hand
Leader’s left hand; follower’s right hand

Trail foot (Opposite of Lead foot)
Leader’s right foot; follower’s left foot

Trail hand (Opposite of Lead hand)
Leader’s right hand; follower’s left hand

Free Foot
The foot not supporting weight

Recover
Returning weight to original supporting foot
